Festive fun at Oxford Castle Quarter
Discover 1,000 years of history by lantern light
This December, all daily tours at Oxford Castle and Prison will be led my lantern light! As the days get colder and the nights draw in, join the guides on a festive and atmospheric lantern-lit tour of Oxford Castle and Prison. You’ll hear real stories of Oxford’s past, see wintery lights and the night sky of Oxford City from atop the 950-year-old St. George’s Tower, then you’ll explore the cells and crypt by flickering lantern light. Santa is coming to town
Head over to Oxford Castle and Prison this winter and meet Father Christmas and get involved in some fun festive activities. When you arrive at the Castle, you’ll be greeted by one of Santa’s Castle elves before being taken into the base of St. Georges Tower, home to over 1,000 years of history. You will then visit the 900-year-old Norman crypt where one of Santa’s elves will teach you how to make wildlife friendly reindeer food that you can take home for the big day! After this you will make your very own Christmas tree bauble and the adults can try a sample of mead. Then it’s time to meet Santa, receive a pre-Christmas gift, and get a festive photo with the big man himself. On the way out you can even write a wish and hang it on the wish tree!
